$16.00
  • Botanical Name: Asplenium nidus
  • Common Name(s): Bird's-Nest Nidus, Spleenwort, or Mother Fern
  • Description: Native to the tropical regions of Asia and east Africa, Asplenium Nidus has large, light green, wavy and crinkled leaves. Leaves can grow up to 5 ft long in the right environment
  • Care: is easy as long as they're provided with medium indirect light if kept indoors or partial shade if outdoors.  Moderate moisture required, likes humidity and moist soils but not soggy wet.  Super important not to water it in the center bird nest as this can cause rotting
  • Bird Nest Ferns are epiphyte plants

One of the amazing adaptations of epiphytes is their ability to attach to vertical surfaces and capture their water and much of their nutrient needs from sources other than soil. They may be found on branches, trunks and other structures in Tropical Rain Forests.   While epiphytes may live on other plants, they are not parasites.  Other types of epiphytes are Orchids, Moss, and Tillandsia Air Plants

Staghorn Ferns do well in living frames, baskets, or mounted in vertical wall hangings, see last pic

They require a small mound of organic matter, such as peat or compost. Pile it under the plant and then tie the fern to the growing medium.
