Our seeds are 100% what we say they are We only work with growers who meet the Federal Seed Act requirements We obtain Organic Certification from all of our suppliers creating a clear paper trail between the seeds we purchase and the seeds we sell. Rest assured all seeds we carry are Organic, Non-GMO, and Untreated, unless clearly noted. If seeds are pelleted they are coated with only organic coatings.
Seed Origins Defined:
Open Pollinated - Varieties that you can save the seed and replant them next season.
Heirloom - Varieties passed down from generations. Typically from before WWII many over 100 to even 300 years old. Heirloom Varieties are open pollinated
Hybrid - Crossing between two different parent plants of the SAME species to create a plant that has superior qualities. ie - cold hardiness, disease resistance NOT GMO. Seeds from these plants will not produce the same plant if re-planted, seed saving not recommended.
Safe Seed Pledge
Garden Outside the Box agrees/signed (2016) the following:
Council for Responsible Genetics Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative, We pledge that we do not knowingly buy, sell or trade genetically engineered seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms, poses great biological risks as well as economic, political, and cultural threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds. Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately healthy people and communities."
